Here at TopCats we stock 2 types of Wallago Catfish, Wallago Leeri and Wallago Attu.
Both fish are native to Asia, the Wallago Leeri or Black Wallago is the larger of the two and is reputed to grow to over 2 meters in length in the wild. Here at TopCats, we have one stocked, in 2018, at 100lbs exactly and hasn’t been caught yet, so there is a challenge for you !
That said, both species are difficult to catch, scavenging on the lake bed, normally, in the hours of darkness. They can be aggressive when out of the water, gloves should be worn as they have rows of sharp teeth within their mouths.
They are part of the same family as the Wels Catfish, just like them, their bodies are nearly all made of the tail and just like them they put up a difficult fight, using their ability to swim backwards to find any suitable bolt hole.
