The Legend of Tyson
Here at TopCats we have some fish that are so well known that they have a name.
Of course the Hulk is the most sought after being the name of the largest fish in the Lake, a Giant Mekong Catfish stocked at 440lb who to this day has not been caught.
There are 2 Redtails, Harry (Lake Record) and Danny Redtail who lives in the margin next to the Arapaima swim but we are not fully convinced they are the same fish. Popeye is a very small and sadly slightly deformed Redtail and he is caught with some regularity. If you have a good picture oh him then please send in to be featured.
More distinctive is the one platinum or Albino Redtail who we have recently named as Casper (christened by TopCats’ regular, Mick Abbott).
But the most famous of all and for sure the most crazy of all is the Mekong Catfish known as Tyson.
We actually have 3 Tysons, all easily recognisable as they don’t have a dorsal fin. One small, one medium and one large.
The middle one is the crazy one and normally weighs in at about 70lb. He is a cult fish sometimes being caught 3 times in one day and now sought after my many TopCats customers. He is a finicky in the take and may or may not put up a fight depending on his mood.
Check out some of the pics as he is a fun fish, making so many people happy and ideal as a first Mekong for a youngster.
