New Fish Stocking
We wanted to share some exciting news about our new stock arrivals this week from our trusted supplier, Bird Aquatic.
As part of our commitment to providing our customers with the fish they not only want to catch, but can catch, we have added 9 new large size Giant Mekong Cats to the Lake with some reaching up to an impressive 72kg!
The process of introducing these magnificent creatures was quite something to witness. Bird’s expertise is truly remarkable; he’s a real “fish whisperer.” He and his team transported the fish all the way from Bangkok, ensuring they were quarantined, strong, feeding well, and disease-free before they even arrived.
On arrival, Bird oversaw the careful transfer from the trucks, replacing the transport water with our Lake water. To monitor their initial acclimatization, Bird ingeniously rigged up nine float rigs, attaching one to the dorsal fin of each Mekong Cat. This allows us to track their movement around the lake, as a sick or weak fish would not move . The fish were then gently carried in wet blankets by a team of men, and Bird personally released each one into the lake’s depths. We are pleased to report that the Mekong Cats are all fit and very strong, and the float rigs have already been shed.
In addition to the Mekong Cats, we also introduced 13 juvenile Jullien’s Golden Carp. These are currently around 2-3kg, but we anticipate they will grow well, provided they can avoid our larger Chao Phraya Cats. While these Carp are not known for rapid growth in the wild, they do have a remarkable lifespan of up to 50 or 60 years, so they will be an awesome long-term addition for our TopCats customers to enjoy. Everyone wants to catch a Juliens, don’t they?
We are thrilled with these new additions and look forward to our customers having the opportunity to catch them.
