Due to the Christmas and New Year periods, Round 11 was fished this month on a nice sunny day that was not too hot, in fact the water has been cold lately affecting the early morning fishing. With the Lake now very busy the Carp are not on such a feeding frenzy, so a match on normal conditions was going to be something new for these events.

All the usual crew were out , although Ondrej replaced Malcolm for Cocos and Gooner Brian was absent for Summer House, and he was replaced by several of Elliot’s friends.

TopCats web developer, SEO expert and birthday boy Marc was out after having an Op in December and it was good to see Izzy back filling in with Eddie on the favoured Redtail Haven Peg. Izzy has recently opened a new bar on Lamai,  The Black Olive Bar and Grill which serves up some great Thai food and of course some great lamb and chicken kebabs. There vibrant bar showing most Premiere League football matches and brand-new pool table and lounge area.

As predicted the fishing was a lot slower in fact after 3 hours, SWS were blanking until Izzy hooked and landed a legitimately hooked 2 oz leaf which took a popped-up milk boilie fished at 40 yards.

The top end of the lake is normally prolific but not today as it was my favourite peg, The Coconut, that was producing from the off for Drew and Brownie from Marvel Construction. Drew was fishing expertly to the far hydrangeas hooking and losing 2 Arapaima but him and Brownie were also catching Carp steadily. Paul and Shona fishing for Login Bar made a brief challenge but in the end the Marvels ran out the winners with 12 fish for 530lb. Brownie has a superb 80lb Carp that he somehow managed to let swim away before we could get a decent photo.

A historic day as this was the first win in 28 matches for Drew and the Marvels.

Login Bar did really well to come 2nd from the normally difficult Predator Corner Swim, they landed 9 fish including a 80lb Mekong that took Paul all-round the lake in a 20-minute battle.

Login sealed the league title with a rubber to spare but it’s all to play for the minor positions and the annual awards for biggest fish and best fish in the final round next month.
