“After years of wanting to visit Thailand and with the bonus of doing some fishing, an opportunity arose to bid for a week’s fishing at TopCats Fishing Resort (which was kindly offered by the TopCats Resort) through Anglers Against Cancer. Not only did I get a chance to do what I wanted, but it hopefully helped the children as well. As it so happens, I lost the bid in the final moments, but Simon reached out to offer me the opportunity to go as well.

We arrived in Koh Samui, which is a stunning little island to the south of the mainland.

Our transfer was already waiting outside for us and took us (via a shop) to TopCats. A warm welcome awaited us before our bags were taken to our accommodation. My wife and I had one of the bungalows with an outside seating area overlooking the lake. It was very spacious and clean, with the air conditioning already on, making the room comfortable on arrival. Already we could see the staff would go out of their way to be as helpful as possible. Most speak excellent English, and the two owners are British.

From the off the fishing was hectic and exciting, with ridiculous runs and battles from, Siamese Carp, Arapaima, Mekong Catfish, Amazon
Redtail, Asian Redtail, Pacu and Tambaqui. The action was pretty much non stop.

This is mostly down to the expert help from the fishing guides. Any food or drink that you fancy during the day is ordered from the menu and is
delivered by the ladies to your swim. The food is outstanding, just like the service.

Whilst we were there, we had a few days off from the fishing to do some sightseeing. We discussed with Simon what we would like to do, and he
organised the whole experience for us. We had a tour of the island in our own private taxi, went snorkelling whilst on the boat trip going out to see Pig Island, and then finished the day off at stunning restaurant in Fisherman’s Village. Overall, it was an amazing experience we shall never forget and would highly recommend to anyone who is in the mind of visiting and wanting to fish in Thailand “
