9: Discover the Best Beaches in Koh Samui
with TopCats’ Island Tour

Koh Samui is home to some of Thailand’s most stunning coastlines, with each beach offering its own unique slice of paradise. Whether you’re after lively crowds, peaceful sunsets, or crystal-clear snorkeling spots, Samui’s beaches deliver something for everyone. At TopCats Fishing Resort, we’re more than just world-class fishing; we’re your gateway to exploring this incredible island. That’s why we now offer a TopCats Island Tour that takes you to some of the most beautiful and unique beaches in Koh Samui.

One key thing to remember when choosing your beach is that   there are twodistinct weather patterns on Samui , with prevailing winds that come form either the east or west. Therefore when choosing your beach look at its location as the weather of course has a huge effect on sea conditions . Like wise bear in mind, location , when you look for a sunset or sunrise.

Here’s a breakdown of what each beach has to offer:

Chaweng Beach: The Heart of Samui’s Action

Location: East coast of Koh Samui

Vibe: Lively, energetic, and full of activity

Chaweng is Samui’s most famous beach, and for good reason. It is by far the biggest and longest, with long stretches of soft white sand and turquoise waters, making it perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Lined with hotels, beach bars, restaurants, shops, and nightlife venues, this area is ideal for those looking to combine relaxation with entertainment. Water sports like jet skiing and parasailing are popular here, making Chaweng a dynamic start to our tour.

Bangrak (Big Buddha Beach): Gateway to Culture

Location: Northeastern coast, near the airport

Vibe: Local charm with spiritual flair

Bangrak is known for its iconic Big Buddha statue, which stands proudly just off the shore. This beach has a laid-back, local feel with calm waters that are perfect for a quiet dip or paddleboarding. It’s a great stop to soak in the culture and enjoy a scenic view of small fishing boats drifting offshore. Like Chaweng, it houses many hotels, a few bars, but is less touristy and also houses a ferry terminal with a gateway to the neighbouring island of Koh Tao and Koh Phangan.

Plai Laem: Serenity with a Spiritual Touch

Location: Northeast corner of the island

Vibe: Peaceful and picturesque

Plai Laem offers a tranquil escape from the busier beaches. It’s home to Wat Plai Laem, a colorful temple featuring an 18-armed statue of Guanyin. The beach itself is peaceful and less crowded, with shallow waters and stunning sunset views. While it’s not the best spot for swimming, it’s perfect for photography, reflection, and enjoying the serene atmosphere.

Bophut Beach: Old World Meets New

Location: North coast

Vibe: Family-friendly with a hint of history

Bophut is where traditional Thai charm meets modern comforts. The beach is lined with some of the biggest hotels but also numerous boutique hotels and trendy cafés, and it’s adjacent to the famous Fisherman’s Village—a must-visit for shopping, local food, and street markets. Bophut’s calm waters make it ideal for paddleboarding or just relaxing by the sea.

Lamai Beach: Chaweng’s Laid-Back Cousin

Location: Southeast coast

Vibe: Balanced and slightly more relaxed

Lamai offers a similar feel to Chaweng but without the constant buzz. You’ll still find beach bars and restaurants, but things move at a slower pace. It’s a fantastic beach for swimming (the best according to this correspondent), kayaking, or exploring nearby attractions like the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks (Hin Ta and Hin Yai). Lamai strikes a great balance between activity and calm. Here you will find Koh Samui Watersports, where you can hire jet skis and long boats as part of a separate tour

Lipa Noi: Perfect for Families and Sunset Lovers

Location: West coast

Vibe: Quiet, shallow, and family-friendly

Lipa Noi is a gem for families or anyone wanting a peaceful day at the beach. The shallow, rock-free waters make it one of the safest swimming spots for kids. There aren’t many waves here, just gentle sea breezes and postcard sunsets. It’s also a popular location for beach picnics and yoga sessions.

Taling Ngam: Secluded Natural Beauty

Location: Southwest coast

Vibe: Untouched and serene

Taling Ngam is one of Koh Samui’s best-kept secrets and being our closest beach it is our favorite . Surrounded by coconut groves and offering panoramic views of the nearby Five Islands, this beach feels like a true escape. It’s rarely crowded, making it the perfect place to disconnect, meditate, or take in the breathtaking natural scenery. Ideal for photographers, couples, or anyone craving solitude.

The sunset at relaxing by the Island View restaurant with a cocktail at happy hour, is one of the gems that is also offered on a separate Topcats Tour

There are some hotels here, beachside, the Intercontinental is one of the best, but if you are on a budget, Am Samui is a good choice
