Battle of the Bars recommenced this month after we had to close the Deep-Water Peg for renovations in May. Well done to Ben in the team for making it look like new already for the Coco Beach Bar who were drawn there for the day.

There were a few reserves in, but it was nice to see the crew back for a fun and boozy afternoon.

The day couldn’t have started with more a bang as Drew, owner of Marvel Construction was into a monster first cast from the Coconut Swim after casting tight to the far bank hydrangeas. When the monster surfaced there was a collective gasp of amazement as an estimated 230lb Arapaima ended in the net, skilfully landed by our new guide Tum.

Drew has never won one of these battles so with a 230lb head start you would have thought that the Marvels were home and hosed!

But, no … as often seems the case these matches, they end up being decided by Carp. Let’s face it nowhere in the world can you get carp fishing like we see here at TopCats Fishing Resort.

Up on the prolific Heavens Point, Brian, and Klaus (Summer House) were relentlessly catching and were edging clear. After a brief downpour, their swim died, and the Carp moved to Redtail heaven where Paul and Shona (Samui Web Solutions) netted 80lb and 70lbers in quick succession. It was all too late though, and Summerhouse had 13 fish for a winning 510lbs. An awesome 4-hour’s fishing.
