Max, a mad keen carp angler from Latvia (Carp Hunter LV ….. checkout the tattoo) contacted us as soon as he arrived on Koh Samui. He couldn’t wait to do a day on the lake and specifically asked for a swim that would enable him to catch his beloved Carp. To be honest, at this time of year the Carp are ravenous so we could have put him on quite a few pegs. We opted for the Heaven’s Point peg and with Doy doing the guiding we were confident that Max catching a lot of fish especially as he is one of the few people that have actually fished a whole day for some time.

The 2 rod set up consisted of a 1/1/2 oz in-line Stonze wrapped in a method ball , with a hair rigged 2 off 20mm pineapple boilie bait and to a size 2 wide gape Gripz hook supplied by the excellent Pallatrax.

First cast and Max was immediately into a Carp and that set the tone for the day when he had 20 + Siamese Carp, plus a smattering of Retails, Pacu, and Tambaqui. The highlight of the day may have been the appearance of Casper, who you can read about here . Our ghostly Albino or Platinum Retail could be the biggest of his species in the world and an awesome catch for any angler.

Max ended the day very happy, but a tired guy and headed back to his hotel in Samui for a well-earned rest.

Max arrived on the Samui Sandbox and this was his first stop off before heading to Phuket. Now the travel to Samui is a lot easier, with double vaccinated travellers only needing to quarantine one night in a SHA+ hotel prior to a negative PCR test.
