Tambaqui
Tambaqui
The Tambaqui or Black Pacu, is a breath takingly beautiful looking fish that has a unique green colouration normally with half black flanks hence it’s name.
Like it’s close relative, the Pacu it also has human-like teeth. It’s a bit more fussy than Pacu, more vegetarian than omnivore and from our experience are partial to bread flake or the famous “Doy Sandwich”.
Many sports fisherman in Brazil follow TopCats and they love this fish and a cross breed called a Tambacu. There they grow to humungous sizes, whereas, here the Lake record is 50lb.
Pound for pound, the Tambaqui will give one of the best fights in the Lake , the speed and power is something every angler should feel first hand. Once out of the water they can be lively, but you can get some great shots with this stunning fish.
You can tell this is one of our favourites.
